THE
57th COURSE ON ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR FOREIGNERS
IN VIAREGGIO
--In
1949 Tristano Bolelli, full professor of glottology
in Pisa University, felt the need to put
in contact young students of different countries,
after the dismal experience of World War II. The chosen place was Viareggio, famous seaside resort,
in order to easy the encounter by an environment offering
moments of relax and amusement (like only a tourist
resort can) together with the occasion of apprehending
a new language.
--For
57 years Pisa University has organized summer
courses on Italian language and culture for foreigners
in Viareggio. This year the courses will
be held July 3-27 (1st course) and August 1-25 (2nd
course) at the international centre for studies "C.
Colombo" college, in Viareggio.
Viareggio
--The
courses intend to offer a panorama of Italian language
and culture. They are given in various levels,
from "beginner" to "advanced". Lessons are held 3
hours per day (9,00 to 12,00 a.m.), 6 days per
week (from Monday to Saturday). Also, there will be
given 10 lectures of one hour (from 12,00
to about 13,00 a.m.) focusing on artistic and historical
itineraries of some Italian famous places. Lectures
must be attended only by students of "intermediate"
or "advanced" courses.
--During
each course 4 cultural excursions (optional) will
be organized (two on Sundays and two on school days)
to the following places:
ROMA - SIENA AND S. GIMIGNANO - VOLTERRA AND
SURROUNDINGS - CINQUE TERRE
--The
cost of each excursion will be 20euro.
On school days if the excursion takes place, lessons
will be cancelled and made up on an afternoon determined
by the students and teacher.
In their free times, students will be allowed to use
new structures and services created inside the international
centre for studies "C.Colombo" which offers:
1. a film library
2. audiotape library
3. a small library containing selected works of greater
Italian both classic and contemporary authors
4. private tutoring, available in the afternoon hours
for students who request it
--No
previous school qualifications are required to attend
--A
placement test, given in the first day of the course
in order to determine the level of knowledge of the
language, makes it possible to arrange homogeneous
classes. At the end of each course (on July 26 and
August 24) a final test will be given, but only students
with 3 days of absence or less will be admitted to
take the exam.
--Pisa
University will issue a Diploma to those students
who pass the final exam. If requested, the
University will issue a Certificate of Attendance
to those who decide not to sit the exam or those who
don't pass the test but have attended 2/3 of the lessons.
--The
Diplomas and the Certificates will be awarded
during a party given for the students at the end of
the course (the evening of July 26 for the First Session;
the evening of August 24 for the second). The day
after the final exam the Director and his Assistant
will be available to assist the students with any
of their needs.
--The
enrollment fee for each course is:
euro 360,00 (individual amount) plus bank charges
euro 330,00 (individual amount), plus bank charges
for groups of 15 or more persons
--It
will be available accommodation with half board at
the international centre for studies "C.Colombo" college
or at conventioned Viareggio Hotels.
--Accommodation
with half board includes:
… single room, double room or triple room with private
bathroom
… continental breakfast and dinner,
… room and dinner since dinner of 2rd of July to breakfast
of 26th of July (1st course) or since dinner of 31st
of July to breakfast of 25th of August
… use of a lounge chair and umbrella at a private
beach club in Viareggio in the same period of the
room
--It
will also be available accommodation in conventioned Pisa hotels, including only room and continental breakfast.

--Registration
form is divided in two:
--those
who wish to attend just the Course must complete only
Form n. 1 (Course Registration) and send it via regular
mail to Department of Linguistics along with a copy
of the payment receipt; those who wish both to attend
the Course and require Housing must complete both
Form n.1 and n. 2 (Housing Request) and send it via
regular mail to Department of Linguistics along with
a copy of the two payment receipts.

IN ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS
IN PISA
--The
Department of Linguistics of the University of Pisa
organises 2-month courses in Italian language for
foreign students during the following periods:
1st Course: 2 March 28
April
2nd Course: 2 November 29
December
COURSE FEE: Euro 260 (including teaching materials)
50 hours of lessons - 3 days a week
ACCOMMODATION on request in one-, two-, and three-star
hotels FINAL EXAMS LEADING TO DIPLOMA OR CERTIFICATE
OF ATTENDANCE
--The
courses, divided into different levels, aim to provide
students not only with a firm grasp of the grammatical
structures of the Italian language, but also with
conversational skills for everyday situations.
--No
special academic qualifications are required for admission
to the courses.
There will be a compulsory placement test on the first
day of each course in order to divide students up
into the various levels. At the end of the courses
there will be a final exam, open only to students
who have not missed more than three days of classes.
--Students
who pass the final exam will receive a diploma from
the University of Pisa. Provided that
they have attended at least 2/3 of the lessons, students
who do not take or pass the final exam may request
a certificate of attendance.
--The
courses will be held in Pisa at the Department of
Linguistics (Via S. Maria, 36 - 3rd floor)
on TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS from 4.30 p.m.
to 6.30 p.m. (timetable subject to variation)

COURSES
--Individual
courses can also be arranged on request throughout
the year. They will be held at the Department of Linguistics
in Pisa.
The courses, which consist of a minimum of 30 hours
of lessons, will cost Euro 23 per hour.
--At
the end of the course, students take an exam leading
either to a diploma or a certificate of attendance.
